Iguazu Falls

The Iguazu Falls are situated on the Iguazu River, that draws the border between Argentina and Brazil. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazú which originates near the city of Curitiba, Brazil. The Iguazu Falls are also in the middle of a rainforest rich in a variety of trees and bushes and different animal species.

They have recently been chosen one of the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World by the vote of about a billion votes through Internet in an election organized by The organization New 7 Wonders (N7W).
The name "Iguazu" comes from the Guarani words y that means "water", and ûasú , meaning "big". The legend says that a god planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. Very angry, the god divided the river, created the waterfalls and punished the lovers to an eternal fall. The first European to find the falls was the Spanish conqueror Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541.
